Michigan's annual electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle registration fees will nearly double in 2026
Drivers in Michigan will soon need to pay much more for annual registration fees if they are driving an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
This reportedly means registering an EV will now cost Michigan drivers an extra $100 annually, which brings the fee to $260, on top of regular registration costs. Likewise, the fee for electric trucks will presumably increase to $360.
Electric vehicle owners will pay an additional $100 annually while gas vehicle taxes remain effectively unchanged.
Michigan Speaker of the House Matt Hall said a hike in registration fees for electric vehicles brings EV users and other drivers to "the same level."
