Tropical Storm Melissa is forecast to grow into a major Category 4 hurricane as it threatens Jamaica and then Cuba, but its effects on Florida remain uncertain, according to the National Hurricane

Tropical Storm Melissa is expected to bring days of heavy rain to the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica and may trigger life-threatening flash flooding, the National Hurricane Center says.

Tropical Storm Melissa is forecast to become a major Category 4 hurricane as its slowly churns in the Caribbean Sea. Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Haiti on alert for heavy rainfall, flooding, and damaging winds, according to the National Hurricane Season. Melissa is the 13th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, which ends November 30.

Melissa had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph early Wednesday and was centered about 325 miles south-southwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
