Governor Ron DeSantis announced today that Florida has entered into a groundbreaking Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), making the state one of the first in the nation to empower its law enforcement officers to perform federal immigration enforcement duties.

On Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol conducted a joint operation with federal immigration officers in Jefferson County to round up 12 people believed to be in the country illegally, one of a number of raids performed around the country as the Trump administration ramps up its plans for mass deportation.

There have been 1,016 arrests and 814 "detainers lodged" in the U.S. as of midnight, Jan. 29, according to a post by ICE.
