At least nine workers are trapped inside a flooded coal mine in India’s northeastern Assam state and authorities have summoned the army to help in the rescue operation

Indian Navy divers recovered the body of one of the nine miners trapped inside a flooded coal mine in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Wednesday. They were trapped on Monday after the mine became inundated with water.

Rescue teams were working on Tuesday (January 7) to reach nine men trapped in a flooded coal mine in the remote district of Dima Hasao in Assam, India. Authorities said at least three miners were feared dead.

Around 40 people entered the well-shaped mine at around 9am on Monday. The workers likely contacted a source of water which soon flooded the mine.
