A very beautiful trip... a must see if you visit Puerto Río Tranquilo. a recommendation: take a boat instead of the kayak. Full review by Valentina C

We stayed in Coyhaique but the drive was long. Google maps claims 4 tours 11 minutes on a mostly dirt road but that is without stops. We took about 5 hours to get there, 1.5 hours in Puerto Rio Tranquilo to see the caves and 4.5 hours back. I recommend you stay in Puerto Rio Tranquilo. The caves are fantastic. Do take the longer boat ride. Check photos and details in our web site travelingwithcyg-blogspot-com If you stay in Puerto Rio Tranquilo you can take a tour to a glacier and, I think (pleas check) even walk on it.
Hello! I really want to see the marble caves and Patagonia but I won't be down there until the end of May and I heard and read it will probably all be closed due to winter. Has anyone gone there around this time or does anyone know if it's still possible for us to go or or should we skip it and go next time? Thank you!

I'm not certain, but pretty sure it will be closed. we are talking about a very remote area of the country, and also winter weather can be capricious. Lago General Carrera looks spectacular but it can be extremely dangerous when the wind is up; even in the balmy summer there are times the tour guides won't go out due to the ferocious, high wind.
We are planning our trip to Chile and were planning on Getting on the Navimag from Quello, Chiloe or Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales initally. We would have loved to be able to get to Puerto Rio Tranquilo though to see the Marble Caves. I was wondering if anyone would have done the trip with Navimag and went to the Marble caves, perhaps via Puerto Chacabuco? (We won't have car, only travalleing by public transport)

We had our own car and were driving north from Villa O'Higgins so I really can't help you. Buses do go through the area but we did not use them. Not all the tours are full day. We spent over an hour looking at the caves on an afternoon tour. They are certainly worth seeing.
